A Conversation with Megan Smith, Commissioner of Vt Travel and Tourism

The community and businesses

are invited

to a St J Chamber sponsored conversation

with Megan Smith, Vermont's Commissioner of Travel and Tourism

Date:      This coming Monday, May 7th  11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Where:  Catamount Arts Theater

Learn how the State is marketing for travel and tourism and how St Johnsbury can partner with the state to bring visitors and be ready for those visitors when they arrive.

TRAVEL AND TOURISM The tremendous growth in the travel industry has been a significant source of income for many small towns in rural settings. Indeed, economists cite the travel and tourism industry as an engine of terrific economic growth in many rural areas that are blessed with notable natural or cultural surroundings. Many small towns located near national parks, sites of historical interest, and scenic areas have seen a surge in businesses aimed at nabbing tourist dollars, and many rural regions have ridden the growth in travel and tourism to new levels of economic prosperity. Of course, this is not a meaningful factor for many rural areas that are not situated in the vicinity of a national park or other popular tourist destination. Still, many rural city planners have successfully spurred new levels of economic activity by marketing attractive elements of the region (lakes and rivers, festivals, historical sites, etc.) so as to draw tourists." Reference for Business » Encyclopedia of Business, 2nd ed. » Qu-Sm » Rural Businesses

Chamber Committees are Actively Recruiting

2012 is shaping up to be a very busy year for the StJ Chamber as it moves forward with many downtown revitalization activities in partnership with the town and other organizations.

Three key committees need volunteers who would like to work together: Economic Restructuring, Promotions and marketing and Desgin.

For those who like to help plan and execute festivals and other events or enjoy marketing or graphic design you will enjoy being part of all that is planned!

As the downtown transforms itself this coming year and the recreation trail opens those interested in participating in everything from banner to building facade improvements has a spot on the design committee.

All of the committee members roll up their sleeves make change happen.
